Oakland Tour

We went to Buttercup's for breakfast, then walked around Jack London Square. We walked by a model of Jack London's creepy log cabin and the farmer's market. There were some ladies at a booth telling people that what people normally call "sea gulls" are actually only called "gulls".

We walked into the Inn at Jack London Square to use the restroom but stayed for awhile when I heard Rachael Yamagata's Be Be Your Love.

She dropped me off at a BART station to get directions to Redwood Regional Park, then I came out and we drove up there. We walked on a paved path, then went up on the hill and took the French Trail back.

Helen took me to a taco truck off Inter- national Boulevard in Fruitvale, then brought me to Andrew's place to pick up my half of the tiramisu we started yesterday. He went to his dad's for dinner and we went up to Turtle Hill to take a look and then down to Americana for burgers.

Homemade Tarimushi

Andrew just came back from Italy, so I went to see him. I walked to his house and on the way, spotted a garage sale and perused inside. I bought a DVD player for $5 and A Walk In The Woods for another buck. I was hoping the DVD player won't have a fan as loud as my Playstation 2.

I got to Andrew's house and we walked together to eat Indian on Irving, then to 22nd and Irving to get some ingredients to make tiramisu. We bought cream, mascarpone cheese and lady fingers. He already had the espresso, which we made in his new stovetop maker. Actually making tiramisu took less than an hour.

I heated the egg yolks while he whipped the cream. We combined them with the cheese and put it on top of espresso soaked lady fingers. He topped it off with hot chocolate mix.

I walked home when we finished, packed and then went to Helen's place. I took a picture at the Fruitvale station and I think black people were looking at me like I was mocking them.

Finger Bleedout

I had banged my finger on the catwalk door at work on Friday and it HURT. Blood clotted under my right middle fingernail. I reported it when I went back to work and Karen had me file a worker's compen- sation claim, which entitled me to medical treatment at the Kaiser clinic across the street at the Opera Plaza.

I went to see Dr. Ofer Eibschutz, who suggested melting a hold in my nail to release the blood, and pressure. He wasn't optimistic, since it had been several days since the impact and the blood might already be dry. I said what the heck, this is the only time I'll ever experience this, so let's give it a try.

He turned on the hot iron and burned a hole in my fingernail, releasing several drops of blood. It worked. And my finger felt a lot better. He said the nail might not fall off, after all.

I had swum 21 laps and biked to work, without taking any time off to shower. It was timed perfectly. The ride was 17.15 miles and average speed was 12.2 miles per hour. I called Dr. Johnson, who told me that the reason Dr. Sherr ordered my biopsy years ago was that I showed possible signs of having mito- chondrial disease. The biopsy confirmed that to be negative.

I went back on the bike to meet Gerrick at his house, and we rode to De Young Museum and back. He's starting to bike more. We did about 6 miles together.

We went back to his house, then drove with Susie to 9th and Irving to Lime Tree Southeast Asian Kitchen for some noodles and steak cubes.

After, we went to Safeway for some root beer float popsicles and then he drove me and my bike home.

It's Decided, 6-1, For Now

At 10AM, the Supreme Court announced their decision on the attempt to repeal Proposition 8, so I went downstairs to see what was going on.

The Court decided, 6-1, that the ban on gay marriage will stand, since it was passed by a majority vote.

People were chanting: Shame on you!

My mom had come back from visiting Andy and Uncle Bill and Auntie Anita with her sister and mom, so I went to meet them and Vicky and Jeremy at Noriega Teriyaki for dinner. My dad had to work.

Memorial Day Hike

We spent Memorial Day driving up to the Point Reyes Seashore and looking around. We stopped for a lunch on the patio at a restaurant a few miles before the Visitor's Center.

The ranger told us about a fence that had shifted so many feet due to the 1906 earthquake. We are on the San Andreas fault.

We drove up the road a little and hiked out to a lookout point, but the trail kept going downhill so we came back after 20 minutes. We stopped for Smart- water, raspberry truffle Haagen Dazs and a peach at Stinson Beach, then drove back to the city for Americana burgers.

Walk With Helen

I figured I had enough time to swim and bike, so I tried it out this morning. I swam 21 laps at Sava, then biked 17 miles to and from work. I took an hour of furlough time off to shower leisurely and then walk around the block and eat a banana.

Helen wanted to walk on our break so we went out to United Nations Plaza, where a homeless man posed with us.

Back in the office, a bug had found its way into my orange pepper and I ate around it.
